A Mizoram volleyball player is winning hearts on the internet for breastfeeding her baby during a match break at the Mizoram State Games in Aizawl. The photograph went viral on the internet.

Lalventluangi, from Tuikum in Serchhip district of Mizoram, was hailed by the netizens her for playing the dual role of a sportswoman and a mother. Mizoram’s sports minister Robert Romawia Royte also tweeted the photograph drawing multiple retweets and comments.

Royte later decided to reward the player with Rs 10,000 for setting an example. “The picture was taken without her knowledge, but it has become viral. She is Lalventluangi, and she is a powerful spiker,” Royte was quoted as saying by The Times of India. “Her picture is also very powerful, showing how strong motherhood can be,” he reportedly said.

The image was shared on Facebook by Ninglun Hanghal where the original source was mentioned as Linda Chhakchhuak.

Lalventluangi, the volleyball player from the Tuikum Volleyball Team, enrolled herself in the players’ camp along with her seven-month-old baby. In between a game, Lalventluangi took a short break so as to breastfeed her child.

“A stolen moment to feed her 7 month old baby in between a game was captured making it the picture mascot of the Mizoram State Games 2019,” an excerpt from Ninglun Hanghal’s post reads.

The internet is proud of Lalventluangi for “her attitude of dedication and courage, taking along twin responsibilities of a sportswoman and motherhood in her stride”.
