Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approve feedstock subsidy to BCPL for 15 years of plant operation at an estimated cost of Rs 4,600 crore would make the plant more viable and provide socio-economic benefits to Assam.

The chief minister expressed gratitude to Modi for the decision and said that it reflected the Prime Minister’s commitment towards development of the region. He also said that the decision would give a significant boost to sustainability of the plant. He also thanked Union Petroleum Minister Dharmen Pradhan for the move.

Further hailing the CCEA approval to transfer of administrative control of Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited from Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals under Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers to Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, the chief minister observed that the decision would play a major role in socio-economic development in the region.

The BCPL plant, implemented under Assam Accord, was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister on February 5, 2016. BCPL is the largest petrochemical complex in Northeast India.
