Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said Manipur government has sought intervention from the Centre to resolve border dispute with Nagaland. Addressing the media at the CM Secretariat he said Manipur government is currently in touch with Nagaland government to bring an amicable and peaceful solution.
To resolve border dispute at Tungjoy in Senapati, the CM said that as resolved by the state cabinet, the committee which was formed to resolve boundary issues with Nagaland at Dzuko and Tungjoy, visited the disputed area at Tungjoy to gather first-hand account of the matter on December 1.
A ministerial team of Manipur had inspected the disputed area in Manipur on December 1. Losii Dikho, minister, PHED, revenue minister, Karam Shyam and tribal affairs and hills and fisheries minister N Kayisii accompanied by senior civil and police officials inspected the area at Mai Hills, Tungjoy Village at Senapati district adjoining the border with Nagaland state.
The area between Tungjoy Villlage of Senapati district, Manipur and Khezhakeno Village of Phek district, Nagaland has a long standing conflict over the traditional land ownership, according to officials.
The team held a joint interaction with the local villagers of Tungjoy Village and officials from Nagaland to take stock of the ground situation and find an amicable way to resolve the dispute to have a peaceful solution.
Minister Losii Dikho assured that the Manipur government will address the problems faced by the villagers and take up concrete measures for peaceful co-existence of both the neighbouring states.
Minister Karam Shyam said that there has been a long standing conflict regarding matter in demarcating boundaries between the two states since 1872 and there is a need to carry out proper survey. A committee meeting with minister Losii Dikho as chairman will be soon held to bring negotiation between Nagaland and Manipur keeping in view the public interest, he assured.
Minister Kayisii said, Manipur Rifles outpost was installed in the village in 1991. He also stated that proper steps will be taken up to resolve the issue quickly after discussion with the chief minister and as per recommendation of the committee.
