A shuffle in the top police ranks in the state has also been reportedly affected as attempts to restore normalcy in the state, including Guwahati, by imposing curfew and calling out Army in multiple places, have failed to yield results.

Singh, who flew in to Guwahati on December 12 morning, has reportedly been appointed the ADGP (Law and Order).

Talking to reporters upon arrival, Singh said, “I received instructions to come here last night and accordingly, I reached today. Now I am inspecting the situation.”

Appealing the people to abide by the curfew, he said, “There is no need to worry. There are enough police and army personnel.”

“Situation should improve by today and this is my assurance,” he added.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar said the indefinite curfew in Guwahati will remain till the situation eases.

He said essential services have been exempted and appealed the people to co-operate in maintaining law and order.

Meanwhile, a change in the police ranks in the state has also been reported, following the arrival of Singh.
