Assam Police puts Sharjeel into four days custody

Activist Sharjeel Imam, facing sedition charges, was brought to Guwahati from New Delhi on February 20 and taken into police custody.

Iman was remanded to four-day police custody by the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, on February 20 evening.

He was brought to Guwahati by train from New Delhi on a transit remand by a team of Assam Police, accompanied by a Tihar Jail team, where Sharjeel was lodged.

Sharjeel is facing charges of delivering anti-Assam speeches at the Shaheen Bagh anti-CAA protests, allegedly calling on the people to cut-off Assam from the rest of the country.

He is also facing similar sedition and other charges, and was arrested on January 28 by a Delhi Police team.
