Three cadets of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), a banned insurgent outfit of Tripura, laid their arms before the BSF on February 18 at Udaipur sub-division of Gomati district.

A BSF Public Relations Officer (PRO) said, “The surrendered militants were identified as Sanna Kumar Tripura (29), Jarma Ram Tripura (22) of Choto Sakbari in South district and Sudaram Reang (38) of Ashapara village in North district of the state. They decided to reject the armed fight and join the mainstream.”

The official added that Sanna Kumar Tripura joined the banned outfit in 2016 and underwent armed training at Bandarban (Thanchi) of Bangladesh. Whereas, Jarma Ram Tripura and Sudaram Reang joined insurgency one and half years back.

In the recent past, a large number of NLFT (SD) militants had surrendered before the government officials and other security forces.

The BSF PRO informed that the trio came from neighbouring Bangladesh, where they were active as new group of the outlawed outfit.

“Some of the NLFT members, who are currently operating under a new group, expressed interest to surrender recently. We have arranged the surrender to return them into normal life. We are giving our best efforts to get the rest of the cadres to surrender and return to normal life. The militants today surrendered with arms and ammunitions and other documents,” the official added.
