The Assam government is tracing more than 450 people from the state who were near the religious congregation of Tableeghi Jamaat at Nizamuddin area of Delhi in mid-March.
The state government has issued strict instruction to identify them and quarantine these people in Assam, with many speculated to have returned.
Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, taking to Twitter, wrote, “Assam govt is now in possession of a list of 299 persons who were present in and around the hotspot near Nizamuddin Dargah. We’ve alerted dist admins (district administration) to find out if these people have returned to Assam, and strict instructions issued to quarantine them if they are in the state.”
He also requested anyone who might have returned to the state after attending that congregation to “please IMMEDIATELY report voluntarily to the nearest government hospital or by calling Helpline no # 104”.
Later, Sarma wrote on Facebook that they have received an additional list of 157 people who were around the area during the event. “We have received another list of 157 persons from Assam who were near hotspot of Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Dargarh. We are acting swiftly and in best possible manner to quarantine all of them, as and when they reach Assam or those who may have reached,” he wrote.
Minister of state for health, Pijush Hazarika said that over 180 people from Morigaon district had attended the event, besides a sizeable number from nearby Nagaon.
A person from Morigaon, who is still within the mosque premise at Nizamuddin, while speaking to a TV channel in Guwahati , said around 34 people from his district were still in the premise.
Several others have left, but he could not specify whether they have been taken to other places for staying or for medical treatment or have returned to Assam.
Besides attendees from Morigaon and Nagaon, there were people from Dhubri district at the congregation, the person claimed.
