The Physics department at Gauhati University has started e-classes for its students as the university, along with other educational institutions in the state is closed due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) threat.

The department is conducting online classes by using CERN technology, using video conferencing to continue the regular classes.

Kalyan Sandilya, representative of the department informed that the trial classes were successfully conducted on March 16. “If the technology works properly, then the classes will start regularly,” the representative said.

For the e-classes, a student needs only a smartphone or a computer with an internet connection. The department advised the students to use headphones for better understanding.

The Assam government has called for complete closure of all educational institutions including universities, colleges and schools, along with public places like swimming pools, gymnasiums and cinema halls due to COVID-19 threat.
