Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi on March 6 appointed Kandarpa Das as the new Vice-Chancellor of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University.
In a notification issued on March 6, the governor in the exercise of power conferred upon him by Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University Act, 2005, appointed Kandarpa Das as Vice-Chancellor of the university with effect from March 11.
Das serves as professor and Head of the Department of Foreign Languages at Gauhati University. He will succeed present Vice-Chancellor Hitesh Deka.
Das also served as founder member of the Board of Management, Finance Committee, Academic Council and the Selection Committee at the Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University. He had led the group of experts for the preparation of the first self-learning materials of the University and training of the academic staff. As recognition to his service in the field of open and distance education, he was empanelled as a candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor, KK Handique State Open University in 2015.
Das has been playing important roles in administration and management at Gauhati University in various capacities, and has actively participated in policymaking as members of the Court, Academic Council and various statutory bodies of the University.
He successfully performed administrative responsibilities like Director, Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Secretary, University Classes, Head of the Department and Chairman, Press Advisory Committee. Presently, he holds the position of the Chairman, Town Advisory Committee at Gauhati University.
Das has also served as founder Station Director at Radio Luit 90.8 FM – the community radio service of Gauhati University during 2011 – 2016. He was instrumental in the formation of the Community Radio Association of India, a platform of the community radio broadcasters of the country and served as its founder national president.
