Mobile internet services were restored on March 17 evening after normalcy was restored in Kamjong district of Manipur.
Clashes between villagers belonging to different communities in the district compelled the government to impose ban on internet on Monday.
Prohibitory orders were still enforced in the district and movement of people was also restricted. A strong police team is also camping in the district.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh had deputed a ministerial team to restore normalcy. Government has constituted a committee to enquire into the events leading to the incident of violence, burning of houses and vehicles.
The chief minister said that the three-member committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary Suhel Akhtar would submit a report soon. The committee, which comprises other two members namely DIG Achin Haokip and Joint Secretary Luckyson Ngamsha Kashung, would also try to identity the culprits responsible for the incident and enquire into the steps taken up by security forces to control/prevent the incident.
He further said that the committee would also suggest measures to prevent similar future incidents.
Singh said the situation is under control and he held series of meetings with representatives of various communities. Relief materials, medical team were also sent today to help the affected people. He assured that the government would build houses for all those whose houses were gutted and compensate for the properties lost in the incident after making an assessment.
