A person from Shillong has allegedly committed suicide at Agra in Uttar Pradesh on March 30 night after his employer refused to take care of him in the wake of the nation-wide lockdown, a police official said in Shillong on March 31.

Hours before hanging himself inside his rented house, Aldrin Lyngdoh, who was working in a restaurant at Agra, had posted on Facebook, accusing his employer of not supporting him during the lockdown to combat COVID-19.

A Meghalaya police official told news agency UNI that Agra police found Lyngdoh hanging inside his rented house after they were alerted by Meghalaya police about the migrant worker’s fear and frustration owing to the lockdown.

“They (Agra police) went to fetch him (Lyngdoh) but when they reached, it was too late and found Lyngdoh’s body hanging,” the police official said.

The police said that the body will be kept in deep freeze after the post mortem.

“We will be able to bring it back only after the lockdown. Meanwhile, police are trying to find out Lyngdoh’s relatives in Shillong,” the officer said.

Posting his message in Facebook about his frustration and threat to commit suicide, Lyngdoh described himself as an orphan and had moved out of Shillong to fend himself.

“I work here in Agra, Uttar Pradesh Sikandra Kargil Shanto food court restaurant. Modi has closed all way for me and nowhere to go. The owner (he) also doesn’t feel pity for me. She told me to go wherever I wanted to. So where will I go and please help me. I don’t know where to go and the only way I see is to commit suicide,” Lyngdoh stated on Facebook.

“All I just want a help from you please if you have humanity please take my body to my town so that I can relax please in the name of God because today I will be no more please help me out,” he stated as he called out for help from his community back home to help in bringing back his body to the state so that he could he buried in Shillong.
