Shillong Press Club suspends press conferences

The Shillong Press Club on March 23 has decided to suspend all press conferences and press meets with immediate effect until further notice.

In its emergent meeting, the Club’s executive committee decided to implement the following procedures to protect its members from the pandemic.

It has been decided to discontinue all press meets/conferences and other events at the Shillong Press Club premises with immediate effect until further notice.

Members are advised to refrain from attending any press conferences called by any individual/organization for the time being.

Anyone wishing to disseminate information to the public through the media is requested to do so via statements/video clips through email/WhatsApp to respective journalists/media houses.

The Club has requested the government is requested to share information/news through the state information and public relation machinery in a time-bound manner for effective dissemination.

It also requested the government to appoint nodal officer(s) as spokesperson/s on its behalf on matters related to COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The club also requested media houses to introduce safe and sanitized working conditions for its employees including those in the newsroom, printing press and other working areas.

Further, it also advises its members who can adopt the WFH (Work From Home) practice to do so in their own interest and well being.

Members are also advised to practice social distancing and proper hygiene while discharging their professional duties and encourage others also to do so.

Earlier, Guwahati Press Club also adopted similar measures in the wake of Corona outbreak.
