Indian railway employees work to convert a train coach into an isolation ward for fight against novel Coronavirus in Guwahati on March 29

The Northeast Frontier Railway will modify 315 coaches as isolation coaches to keep COVID-19 positive patients in isolation if required.

These coaches will be placed in various locations and if needed, more coaches can be modified, an NFR statement said in Guwahati on March 31.

These coaches would be equipped with basic facilities needed for isolation as per medical guidelines. Coaches are also going to be equipped with mosquito nets, charging points for mobiles and laptops, space for paramedics etc.

These coaches would be prepared zone wise and placement of the coaches will be notified by Railway Board in due course as per need.

One Isolation coach will have 9 beds, 1 bathroom and 3 toilets for the use of patients.

Two positive cases of COVID-19, one each in Manipur and Mizoram, have been detected in Northeast region so far.
