Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 10 said that 5 COVID-19 patients out of the 29 positive cases reported in the state have recovered after their last two tests reported negative for the virus.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma said that three patients admitted in Golaghat and two patients admitted in Guwahati have recovered from the disease. Sarma added that the businessman from Guwahati, who was tested positive earlier, had also recovered.

However, the minister added that the ‘recovered’ patients will have to stay in quarantine and will be released from the hospitals only at a later stage. “They are in good health. They will be released only after the necessary quarantine period,” he said.

With this, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the state decreased to 23 while one patient from Hailakandi district died from the disease.

Speaking on adoption of rapid testing for COVID-19, Sarma said that the state government is in the process to order 1 lakh such kits but their delivery will be only after mid-April. “Till that time, we have requested the Centre to provide us at least some kits so that we can start the process. We hope that we will be able to get some kits soon and thus start the rapid test process,” Sarma said.
