Assam government has decided to provide a one-time relief to certain patients who have gone out of the state for treatment but could not return due to the 21-day nationwide lockdown.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 10 said that patients who went out of the state for treatment of cancer, kidney transplant or heart surgery can get in touch with the state government for a one-time grant.
“We have decided to help those patients. We have information that a number of them are stuck outside because of the lockdown. They can call at 03612558955 and give their details after which we will do a simple verification and will be able to release some grant. I won’t be able to tell you the exact allocation at this moment because it will mainly depend on the number of calls we receive,” Sarma said.
Earlier, the Assam government had released a one-time grant of USD 2000 to those people who went abroad in the last one month for temporary purpose and could not return due to the lockdown.
