Five persons from Manipur, including two drivers, on April 19 left Imphal for New Delhi by road to help a woman undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gurgaon, Haryana, who require an urgent bone marrow transplant amid the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The woman is suffering from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and is undergoing treatment at Fortis Memorial Research Centre in Gurgaon for the last three months. The patient requires an immediate bone marrow transplant within the next 10 days and hence Manipur government, by consulting the Centre and governments of Nagaland, Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, allowed them to proceed to the said hospital.

The team left on April 19. The team comprises a former MLA whose wife is the patient, sister of the patient who is the donor and a care giver of the donor. Two drivers, will be driving the vehicle and will return to Imphal after dropping off the patient party. On their arrival at Imphal, they have to home quarantine themselves for a period of 14 days as per standard protocol.
