Amid the nationwide lockdown due to the outbreak of COVID-19, a Guwahati-based production house has called for entries for a short film competition among the people.

The short film competition is being conducted to encourage the people stay indoors as the basic terms and conditions for filming is to shoot indoors.

The organizers will felicitate the winners with cash rewards.

“The idea is to keep the people engaged inside their home and also to encourage some positive works during the lockdown. We will be more than happy to unearth some hidden talents through this initiative. I know this is not very big but definitely a start towards positivity,” Kangkan Deka, an independent filmmaker and proprietor of Kernel Film Production, told The News Mill.

As per the terms and conditions set by the organizers, the films can be shot with smartphone or any other camera but it should be made entirely in the premise of their own home.

The maximum duration will be of 15 minutes. The participants won’t be able to use stock footages or footages from previous work. The music used should not have any copyright or license issue.

“There is no restriction on topic and language,” said Deka adding that subtitle will be required for films made in languages other than Assamese, Hindi and English.

The received films will be uploaded in the production house’s YouTube channel and results will be based on number of views, likes and jury’s decision.

The revenue collected from YouTube will be donated to needy people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

National Award winning filmmaker Deep Choudhury, film critic Bitopan Borborah and film researcher Parthajit Baruah will be the jury members for the competition.
