Addressing the media in Imphal on April 30, Jayantakumar said, the government has been putting its best effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The government is also keeping in touch with the Union Ministry of Health for suggestions and help to take up necessary steps in curbing the curve of the pandemic.

He informed that there were two positive cases of COVID-19 in the state but the patients have been discharged after testing negative multiple times. “This doesn’t mean that we are totally free from the disease and we need to be more careful in the coming days,” he said.

The government is taking up steps to bring Manipuri people who have been being stranded outside the state, he added.

The people will be strictly screened and examined at Mao Gate as an initial step, after which they will be sent to Imphal quarantine centre for further examination where they have to stay for a day. After their stay at this quarantine centre, they will be put under quarantine for 14 days.

The persons will either be quarantined at home or at the institutional quarantine centres depending upon the decisions made by the health experts, Jayantakumar said.

He said that the local people should not have any social stigma against the persons who are returning home since they have not been classified as infected by the virus.

The minister also highlighted the facilities available related to COVID-19 at different district hospitals including RIMS and JNIMS.

He further stated that the government is also seeking the help of Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Home to give permission for chartered flights to carry back the people that are being stranded in different parts of the country home.
