The National People’s Party (NPP) is in talks with the BJP leadership over the issue of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh divesting all the portfolios of Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Saturday.
“.. We are working along with BJP leadership to resolve this issue and hope it will be resolved at the earliest,” he said.
Sangma, who is also the NPP national president, said that he had already spoken to Singh and the four NPP ministers on the issue.
“These kinds of issues are very complicated to discuss because there are many factors but of course, it is a very serious issue,” he said.
On Thursday night, Singh stripped off all the portfolios of the deputy chief minister who allegedly described the chief minister’s assurance of food security during the lockdown as “hogwash” and “gibberish”, saying that the distribution of rice to the poor people during the lockdown period in his Uripok assembly constituency was “not enough”.
Manipur government spokesperson and BJP legislator S Rajen had challenged the four NPP ministers to quit the ministry if they are unhappy with Singh’s leadership.
