“One of the family-friend of the positive patient (first case) has also been tested positive. The person is already in quarantine centre,” Sangma tweeted, late night on April 20.

Meghalaya recorded the first COVID-19 positive case on April 13, that of a doctor working at Bethany hospital in Shillong, which is now declared as COVID-19 hotspot in this state capital. In less than 48-hours, the doctor died in his hospital which he established three decades ago.

Out of the 10 COVID-19 patients, two are domestic helpers and eight of them are family members of the first patient.

Earlier, during his regular briefing on Monday evening, Sangma said, “838 samples tested for COVID-19 in the state so far, 714 yielded negative results and results of 113 were awaited.”
