Tripura has done most number of COVID-19 tests per million populations in the entire country, an official said on April 28.

Additional chief secretary holding the charge of health SK Rakesh on April 28 claimed that the average of testing at the national level is 470 per million of population but the figure in Tripura is 1108. Now, the state is holding the top position in an average of testing.

He said the samples of as many as 4453 have been tested so far and only two positive cases have been detected in the state. He added that both the patients have already recovered.

On April 27, 247 samples were tested.

The official added that persons returning from COVID-19 red zones will have to undergo tests with mandatory quarantine. Also, random tests are being done if anybody returns from green zones as well.

He made it clear that Tripura would follow the instruction of central government with regards to lifting of lockdown even though the state has already been declared as COVID-19-free and said, “We were able to contain COVID-19 because of extensive support from all sections. We urge the people to follow social distancing, wearing of mask, washing hands frequently and other precautions to beat COVID-19 even if lockdown is lifted on May 3.”

He asserted that the state wanted to resume economic activities following all norms.
