Tripura government has sought a detailed report from its Rajasthan counterpart on April 3 after receiving primary information that two Tripura residents hailed from India-Bangladesh border area of Sonamura in Sepahijala district were tested positive of Coronavirus in a Bikaner hospital.

The two were among 11 others of the same area who left for Delhi on March 5 and attended Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin, Delhi along with hundreds of others. Reportedly, all of them had left for Bikaner on March 8 from Delhi and upon reaching there the group attended few more religious assembly till March 20 based in a village mosque.

When one of the members in the group developed symptoms of COVID-19, he was shifted to the nearest health facility. He was found to be positive. All others were taken into quarantine and tests were conducted wherein another person was found positive. Media reports stated a large number of villagers who came into contact with the group have also been quarantined.

“We have asked for detailed report from Rajasthan government regarding their health status, travel history and related other information, so that we can take further steps for others in the group who attended the function with them or any other person might be missed from identification and test,” said health secretary Debashis Basu in Agartala.

He said the figure of Tablighi returnees have been increasing day-by-day but as of now none in Tripura was found positive. As many as 192 COVID-19 tests were carried out in the state so far in past two weeks including returnees of Nizamuddin. “Initially, we had got the reference of six people who attended Tablighi Jamaat and later on, after several phases of investigation, the figure rose to 36 as of now and it might further increase,” he added.
