A nine-year-old boy was tested positive for COVID-19 in Jorhat on May 17, taking the total tally of positive cases in Assam to 96 cases.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that the minor came from Delhi recently. He was admitted at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

A 9 year-old baby boy from Ward No 3 of #Jorhat, and who came from Delhi, has tested #COVID positive. She is now in Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (sic),” the minister tweeted.

With this, the number of active cases in Assam stands at 51 while 41 others recovered from the disease. Two patients died of COVID-19 complications while two others migrated to other states.

(The story was edited after the minister clarified that the patient is a nine-year-old boy and not a three-year-old girl as was stated earlier).
