Arunachal Pradesh on May 24 reported a COVID-19 positive case. The patient had travelled from Delhi to Seijosa in Pakke Kessang district on May 18.
Reports said that the person is asymptomatic. The patient, a student preparing for competitive examinations in Delhi, returned on May 18 and had undergone mandatory testing. Contact tracing is on, officials said.
The student had returned from Delhi by a bus on May 18. He came to Arunachal in a bus with 33 others.
“One person tested positive for COVID-19 by RT-PCR testing on May 24 evening. This person had returned from Delhi by bus on May 18. He was kept in quarantine facility and his throat swab sample was taken after 3-days. He is currently asymptomatic and will be further managed in a dedicated COVID Care Centre (DCCC) as per SOP,” a bulletin issued by the Arunachal Pradesh government said.
“Out of the 61-passengers who had travelled from Delhi in two buses as (29 and 32 number break-ups) had reached Arunachal on May 18. From this group, one has tested positive, 31-tested negative, 26-results are awaited and 3-not tested yet. All are not having any symptoms till date,” the bulletin, signed by Dr L Jampa, State Surveillance Officer IDSPs, added.
Earlier in the morning on May 24 a fake news was spreading in the social media about COVID-19 cases in the state. DIPR has informed that while the information being circulated in the morning was fake, the report of one positive case in the evening, that of a Delhi retunee student, was true. DIPR added that the student is now being shifted to COVID Care Centre.
With the detection of the new case, the number of cases in the state went up to two. The other patient had recovered from the disease and was released from the hospital on April 17.
Earlier, the state reported its first case from Lohit district. The patient was hospitalized at the district hospital in Tezu and had recovered from the disease. He was discharged from the Tezu hospital on April 17.
