A COVID-19 patient in Meghalaya, who was tested positive on May 9, reportedly broke quarantine protocols, a top health official revealed on May 11.
“She broke quarantine once to buy items for the family where she was working as a housemaid,” Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman Warr told reporters on May 11 during the daily briefing of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Residents of the locality said that the woman had reportedly left the house to buy meat.
“That is very true that the patient broke her quarantine once to buy some food items for her family but (now) she and her family are under (strict) quarantine,” the health official said.
“We have already started the high risk and low risk contact tracing in the locality, and a dedicated team has been entrusted to carry out the exercise,” Dr Warr informed, adding that the woman had gone into home quarantine since April 14, a day after the first COVID-19 patient was detected in Meghalaya.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed as of now, 2480 people in the state have been tested, out of whom 2342 have tested negative and results of 125 tests are awaited.
So far out of the 13 COVID-19 positive cases in Meghalaya, which include one deceased, 10 have recovered and two cases are still active in the state.
