Four new COVID-19 positive cases, including two in Guwahati, took the Novel Coronavirus tally to 95 in Assam on May 17. The other two cases were reported from Sonitpur district and from a Jorhat quarantine centre.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the Guwahati cases were reported from Kalapahar quarantine centre and from Fatasil Ambari.

He tweeted late night that the two patients were being shifted to MMCH in Guwahati for treatment. “One #COVID positive patient is at Kalapahar quarantine centre and we went there to ensure smooth evacuation. The other person was evacuated from Fatasil Ambari. Both have been admitted to MMCH. We are also in process of taking the third patient to Tezpur medical (college and hospital),” the minister tweeted at 2.43 am on May 17.

The third case was reported from Sonitpur district late in the evening on May 16.

The fourth case was reported from Jorhat quarantine centre, where a person from Sivasagar was tested positive early morning on May 17.

“One young boy from Sibsagar tested #COVID19 positive. He is at present in our Jorhat quarantine centre,” the minister informed at around 2:30 am on May 17.

With these, the total number of cases in Assam went up to 95 with 50 active cases while 41 others recovered from the disease and were released from hospitals. Assam reported two deaths due to COVID-19 related complications while two cases migrated to other states.
