Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on May 29 had a telephonic conversation with Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and apprised him about the gas explosion at oilfields in Baghjan, Tinsukia.

A gas explosion was reported from oilfields at Baghjan in Tinsukia district of Assam on May 27.

During the conversation, Sonowal urged the Union minister to take immediate remedial measures to assuage the situation. The petroleum minister assured of all possible support in this regard.

Sonowal also had a discussion with CMD of Oil India Limited, Sushil Chandra Mishra, on the situation arising out of the gas explosion incidents. The chief minister urged Mishra to take immediate steps to ensure safety of public health in the vicinity of oilfields explosion while stopping gas leakage at the earliest to prevent any further damage.

The chief minister also directed Chairman of Assam Pollution Control Board Y Suryanarayana to visit the site of the incidents.

CMD OIL Sushil Chandra Mishra will visit the Baghjan oilfields on May 30 along with chairman of Assam Pollution Control Board to take stock of the situation and take remedial measures.
