An Indian Reserve Battalion jawan from Sikkim, presently posted in Delhi on May 3 released a video addressed to Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang, in which he highlighted the poor conditions in which he and other jawans are living amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
As most of the areas in Delhi have been declared hotspots of coronavirus pandemic, the jawan alleged that the vehicle in which they go for duty has been sanitized only once in the last month.
He further alleged that all of them have been provided with only three masks and a sanitizer each and 15-16 of them have to sleep in one barrack. “There is no general physician attached to their camp,” the jawan said.
In the video message, the IRBn Jawan has said their parents back in Sikkim are very concerned about their health.
The jawan has requested that the IRBn camp, Delhi be provided with a doctor, a decent clean vehicle and sanitizing facilities for their bus and any other safety arrangements required to protect the camp from the spread of coronavirus, while they serve the nation. He cited the example of Delhi government having extended such facilities to the police.
In reply, Chief Minister Tamang has said that a Nodal officer has been appointed in Delhi for their help and the IRBn jawans can also contact the Residential Commissioner with their grievances.
