The Manipur Information Commission has resumed the hearing of its appeal and complaint cases through audio/video conference from May 19 after all the activities were suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The commission on May 19 conducted the hearing of two appeal cases relating to the Social Welfare department through WhatsApp video.

The Commission has taken up the step to ensure the Right to Information to the citizens of Manipur even during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Central Information Commission has recently urged all the state information commissions to resume hearing of cases through audio/video conference and minimize physical presence in the hearings.

All stakeholders including SPIOs (State Public Information Officer) were informed about the situation requiring extraordinary actions in these times of COVID-19 pandemic as the Right to Information Act is a common man’s act.

The commission is making all efforts to protect the Right to Information by the information seekers. The Commission further seeks opinions from both the RTI activists and SPIOs about the arrangement taken up by the commission.
