Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on May 20 reiterated that the entire state machinery is in place and the government is in a position to take care of the COVID-19 situation after the state detected one more positive case who is a returnee from Chennai on May 19 evening.
The total number of cases detected so far in Meghalaya stands at 14 with one dead, 12 recovered and one active. The deputy chief minister also informed that from the 12 recovered, 10 have been released while two are still under institutional quarantine as they are yet to complete their 28 days.
In his daily briefing, Tynsong informed that advisories and protocols will be issued to the elderly population of the state which will be communicated and explained by the 7000 village COVID-19 management committees by going house-to-house.
“The committee should reach out to elderly people 60 years and above, and these elderly citizens should be advised, especially those with diabetes and high blood pressure levels, to take proper care and prevention,” he said.
Tynsong said the committee needs to go to each and every household, and the protocols will be handed over to elderly people how to protect our elderly people.
Meanwhile, said the government has issued an order was issued allowing shops to open including tea and rice stalls in rural areas barring Shillong Agglomeration.
However tea and food stalls on national highways are not allowed.
