The opposition Congress in Assam has alleged that the situation in quarantine centres in the state is unhygienic which is likely to spread the Coronavirus infection faster among people who are quarantined in these centres.

Addressing a video conference, Ripun Bora, President, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) said that people have been quarantined in dirty quarantine centres. “Chances of infection are higher in such kind of unhygienic environment…no sufficient drinking water facility and toilet provisions are available in the quarantine centres,” he said on May 27.

“Very low standard food is being served to the people staying in quarantine centres,” Bora added.

He also said that the stranded people who are coming from outside the state are being made to wait for long hours with food and any provisions before shifting them to the quarantine centres.

Earlier, the Assam cabinet approved “ruthless implementation” of quarantine protocol and no one arriving from outside the state by air, land or train will be allowed to go home without completing the quarantine period.
