Three new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Manipur on May 23 taking the total number of cases in the state to 29.

A man was tested positive late night on May 22 at the VRDL, RIMS while two other persons were also tested positive on May 23 at RIMS thus increasing the total number to 29.

Two persons – a woman and her son – who were in RIMS COVID centre were tested negative after undergoing treatment. The number of active cases is 25.

Six persons were undergoing treatment at RIMS while 19 were at JNIMS.

The man who tested positive last night is a 26-year-old from Imphal West district. He left Chennai by train on May 10 and reached Jiribam on May 13. He had blocked nose and mild cough. His sample was collected on May 19. He was now admitted in the COVID Care facility at RIMS.

All necessary control measures like containment and contact tracing are taken up. All other individuals of the same quarantine centre were tested and found negative.

About 112 samples were tested last night at VRDL, RIMS, said Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director and Spokesperson Health department, Manipur.

According to L Tomcha Khuman, State Surviellance Officer, about 1820 persons were at government quarantine while 7582 persons were also community quarantine.

About 3074 people have left government quarantine and 65 persons left community quarantine after completion of their mandatory 14 day stay.
