Tripura government has started the process for distribution of 14,608 smartphones among final year students of different degree colleges, universities, and government-run technical institutions in the state.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on May 6 started an online portal for registration of names of potential beneficiaries of the free smartphone scheme. According to the promise made in BJP’s pre-poll vision document, all youth in the state are entitled to receive free smartphones from the state government.

Deb said that registration can be done through the website www.scholarships.gov.in. He said the registration of names through applications will be done up to June 6 while the verification of identities of applicants will be completed by June 15. The approval for the applications will be granted between June 30 and upon completion of the process direct benefit transfers of Rs 5,000 will be made for each applicant.
