An army man has tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya, while five others, including a lactating mother, who had tested positive for the virus, have recovered, a health official said on June 21.

With this, the tally of COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya went up to 44. There were 6 active cases in the state while 37 others have fully recovered and one died of COVID-19 related complication on April 15.

Director Health Services Aman War said an army man who had returned to the Assam Regimental Centre (ATC) Headquarters in Shillong from Guwahati had tested positive for COVID-19 on June 20 night.

“The patient is asymptomatic and is now admitted at the isolation ward in Military Hospital, Shillong,” the medical official said.

War said that the army authorities are carrying out contact tracing.

On the other hand, five more patients, including a woman who was admitted with labour pain and had tested positive before delivery and her husband who too was COVID-19 positive and were admitted in the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Shillong besides three others in Civil Hospital, Shillong have all recovered from the viral infection.

The woman had given birth to a healthy baby on June 12.

“The swab sample of the new born baby also tested negative,” War informed.
