Assam Congress protests nationwide fuel price rise

Petrol strike meghalaya

The Opposition Congress on June 24 organized a protest demonstration in Guwahati against fuel price hike in the country.

Assam Congress chief Ripun Bora and former three-time chief minister Tarun Gogoi, among others, sat in a two-hour demonstration at the Rajiv Bhawan premise in Guwahati, demanding roll back of fuel price rise.

Talking to reporters, Bora said, “At a time when the global price of fuel is on a downward trend, prices of petrol and diesel are being constantly increased in our country.”

“Fuel prices have been increasing for 18 days now. Soon, the price per litre will reach Rs 100. When the government should have been working to ease the problems of the people due to the pandemic and lockdown, it is working to increase their woes,” he said.

Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi also slammed the government, alleging that it was adopting anti-people policies and was blind to the problems of the masses.

The Congress later attempted to take out a horse cart ride in the city, with images of the prime minister and the petroleum minister atop it, but was stopped by the police.
