As many as 273 fresh COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Assam on June 26 taking the number of infected to 6919.

At least 203 of the new COVID-19 cases were reported from Guwahati, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed through Twitter late in the night.

Sarma further said that the recovered figure has increased to 4247 with 214 discharges and the death toll remained at nine.

Meanwhile, the entire Kamrup Metro district, under which Guwahati comes, has been placed under 14 days total lockdown effective from 7 pm on June 28.

Curfew hours for the entire state have been extended from 7 pm to 7 am until further orders.

Moreover, weekend lockdown has been declared in all areas under municipal and town committees in the state from June 27.
