Lovlina Borgohain

Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain has been recommended for Arjuna awards by Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on June 1. Along with Lovlina, Simranjit Kaur and Manish Kaushik have also been nominated for the annual Arjuna awards.

Amit and Vikash Krishan have been recommended for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the highest sporting award in India.

For Dronacharya Award which is for coaches, Chhote Lal Yadav and Md Ali Qamar’s name have been recommended.

N Usha’s name has been recommended for Dhyan Chand award.

“The BFI has made due diligent exercise on the basis of the performance of the athletes and coaches during the last four years and has made the recommendations for the Annual Sports Awards 2020,” said a statement.

Lovlina was recently ranked 3rd in the world in the 69kg weight category by the International Olympic Committee’s Boxing Task Force.

In March, she had booked a berth for the Olympics before it was postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak.

“Lovlina has been very impressive in the last several years. She is working hard on her game and has improved. I wish her all the best,” said Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) general secretary Hemanta Kumar Kalita.
