The COVID-19 death count in Assam increased to nine with a Chennai-returnee succumbing in Karbi Anglong district of the state on June 18.
State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed of the latest death on June 18.
A youth, who had landed at Guwahati from Chennai by flight two days ago and had proceeded to Diphu for quarantine, was admitted at the Diphu Medical College and Hospital on June 17 after he complained of respiratory problems.
The youth died at the hospital, while his swab test result later found him infected with COVID-19.
