An elderly citizen in Meghalaya with no travel history to any Coronavirus-hit state, tested positive for the infection on June 9, taking the number of active cases to 26 in the state, a health official said.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Alexander Laloo Hek said that the senior citizen, who is a native of Ri-Bhoi district, tested positive at a hospital in Shillong.

“The patient was admitted in hospital for some other ailment but since he showed symptoms of Coronavirus they collected his swab sample and the test results confirmed positive for the virus,” Hek told the media.

He said the patient is in an isolation ward and his health condition is stable and under supervision.

“As the patient has no travel history we have collected the swab samples of his family members to ascertain from where he had contracted the virus,” the health minister said.

With the latest detection, Meghalaya has registered 40 COVID-19 positive cases, which include 26 active, one death and 13 recoveries so far.

Hek informed that of the 11492 samples tested so far, 11202 came out negative while 250 results were awaited, adding that 808 persons were in institutional quarantine in various parts of the state.
