The flood situation has worsened in Assam with incessant rains inundating fresh areas and causing landslides, leading to two more deaths in the last 24 hours in different parts of the state.
The number of affected districts has increased to 16, in which 40 revenue circles have been affected so far, Assam State Disaster Management Authority release said on June 26 evening.
Most of the major rivers in the state are in spate, including the Brahmaputra in three places, Buridehing in Dibrugarh, Dhansiri in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur, Puthimari in Kamrup, Pagladiya in Nalbari, Manas and Beki in Barpeta, and Sankosh in Dhubri.
Over 2.52 lakh population across the state have been hit by the current ongoing wave of floods, while more than 18,000 displaced people are taking shelter in 82 relief camps.
Another life has been claimed by floods in the last 24 hours, taking the overall death toll in the floods to 16.
Meanwhile, heavy rains caused landslide in Guwahati, leading to death of a woman.
One Usha Borah (72) was killed after she sustained major injuries when landslide damaged her house in Kahilipara area of Guwahati on June 26 morning.
Two others were also injured in the incident, which damaged two houses in the area.
