A middle-aged man was arrested on June 12 night on the charge of raping his 14-year-old specially-abled daughter three days ago in their house in the absence of his wife in West Hichai Lal Cherra village of Dharmanagar in North Tripura.

According to police, the accused went absconding after the incident was revealed to the rest of the family members.

Allegedly, the incident happened on the evening of June 9 when the survivor’s mother was not at home and the survivor was alone.

The survivor explained the ordeal in detail to her mother at night, but she could not summon the courage to go to the police.

On June 12, the mother of the survivor, finally, lodged an FIR with Kadamtala police station with the help of Child Line and a local paralegal volunteer, after which the police swung into action immediately.

The accused man, who had fled his house, was caught by the police from a hideout on June 12 night.

Acting on specific information from locals, police cordoned off the area and nabbed the accused.

Medical examinations of both the accused and the survivor were done at night.

Police has started investigation under Section 376 (DA), 376 (2) (f), 376 (2) (l) and Sections 325, 201 and 4 POCSO Act.
