Assam state BJP on July 9 accused opposition Congress and other organizations in the state of spreading misinformation about the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.

In a strongly worded statement, spokesperson of the state unit of the party, Rupam Goswami, said that Congress and many other organizations, at a time when the state is passing through a difficult time, are indulging in various misinformation campaigns on COVID-19 which has made the situation much more critical.

Goswami said that the people of the state are strictly maintaining the lockdown rules which are the most important deterrent in fighting the disease till the time vaccine becomes available.

Referring to the protests rally organized by a Congress MLA in Nagaon in central Assam, Goswami strongly condemned the act and said that no social distancing norms were followed.

Goswami appealed to the opposition parties not to make COVID-19 pandemic a political issue which will further compound the problems of the people of the state.

Meanwhile, the death toll in COVID-19 continues to rise in Assam as two more casualties on July 9 pushed the figure to 24. The overall tally has touched 14,032, with 8,726 patients recovered so far.
