Six people were reported dead from different parts of Assam due to floods on July 13, taking the total toll in the state to 50.

Flood waters affected over 21 lakh population on July 13, a daily bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said.

The number of population affected has increased to 21,63,010 from about 12.97 lakh on July 12 evening.

The number of affected districts stands at 27 out of total 33 districts in the state, in which 86 revenue circles and over 2,700 villages have been affected.

As many as 13 major rivers are flowing over the danger level across the state, including the Brahmaputra in five places throughout the length of the state.

Altogether 173 relief camps are operational in the state, sheltering over 60,000 displaced people.

Personnel of NDRF and SDRF are assisting the local administrations in relief and rescue operations in different parts.

Nearly 95 per cent of Kaziranga National Park has been submerged, with 47 animals killed and 70 rescued in floods this year.

Parts of Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park have also been inundated.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on July 13 visited Rohmoria in Dibrugarh and announced three schemes totaling Rs 25 crore for finding permanent solution to the problem of erosion caused by Brahmaputra in the area.

Three other schemes were announced by the state government in December last year for a total cost of Rs 18 crore which are at different stages of implementation.

Sonowal also took stock of progress in the porcupine construction work carried out under SDRF in Rohmoria.

After interacting with the local people, the chief minister announced that a rehabilitation policy would soon be taken up by the state government for the flood and erosion-hit landless people.
