COVID-19 positive cases on the rise in Meghalaya

Meghalaya capital Shillong has been subject to a rising number of Novel Coronavirus infection over the past few days with 23 more reported on July 26 morning taking the active cases up to 555 in the state.

Director Health Services (MI), Aman War, informed that till 11 am on July 26, 23 COVID-19 positive cases, including that of two armed forces personnel and seven civilians in East Khasi Hills, eight in Ri-Bhoi (five armed forces and three civilians), three in West Khasi Hills, and one each in North Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills were detected.

Fifteen more patients, including 14 BSF personnel and one civilian recovered from the viral infection in East Khasi Hills, which, with 460 active cases is the most affected district in the state.

Meanwhile, several localities in Shillong, from where positive COVID-19 cases were reported, have been declared containment zones, with new localities being included in the list with detection of fresh cases.

In West Jaintia Hills district, New Hill Jowai was declared a containment zone, following detection of a COVID-19 positive case.

Public are not allowed to move into containment zones and inhabitants are not allowed to move out.

East Khasi Hills District Magistrate, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, has ordered a total curfew in Shillong and its adjoining areas from midnight on July 26 to midnight of July 29. During this period, a total lockdown will be in force.

Night curfew will also be effective in rural areas of East Khasi Hills from July 27 to August 3 between 9 pm to 5 am each day.
