The wife of a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died on July 28 at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong.

The 47-year-old woman had co-morbid conditions and had visited NEIGRIHMS for dialysis.

Director of Health Services (MI), Aman War said that the woman died of “kidney failure”. She was suffering from chronic renal failure.

“She was admitted in the hospital for other ailments. Therefore, this case will not be counted as death due to COVID-19,” War said.

The official informed that the patient was “asymptomatic” as she was not coughing nor had any difficulty in breathing.

War also informed that so far NEIGRIHMS has 22 active COVID-19 cases.

“Five are nurses, one is a doctor and the rest are patients or attendants,” he said.
