‘Lorni – The Flaneur’, a film based in Shillong, has got an official selection for the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF).

The film has also been nominated in two categories ‘Best Actor’ for Adil Hussain who plays the protagonist and ‘Best Screenplay’ for Wanphrang Diengdoh. The film in Khasi and Hindi is directed by Wanphrang Diengdoh.

“I’m absolutely excited. Even though film festivals have all gone online because of the current situation I’m thrilled nonetheless. It also means quite a bit because this is my first fiction film after dealing with the non-fiction format for years. We had scheduled the film for a theatrical release because the film was shot keeping that in mind and then the lockdown was announced. But any kind of good news at this moment of time is great to hear,” Wanphrang told The News Mill.

The first screening of the film will take place on July 31 at 6 pm New York time (EST) and will be followed by a question and answer session with Wanphrang and Adil. This year’s edition of the New York Indian Film Festival will be held online on MovieSaints.com.

Lorni is about Shem, played by Adil, who is a detective with no job at hand. The self-styled detective with a sharp sense of the streets escapes the lethargy of small town Shillong when he is asked to investigate the disappearance of objects worthy of great cultural value. Navigating narrow streets and dark alleys, he embarks on an emotional and mental journey reflective of his reality and that of Shillong.

“I’m so elated that ‘Lorni – The Flaneur’ has been selected in the New York Indian Film Festival, since this is amongst the preeminent Indian film festivals worldwide…And more since it’s the second year in the running that a film where I’ve been involved as a producer, is an official selection in this festival, following Jahnu Barua’s ‘Bhoga Khirikee’ (Broken Window) last year,” Shahnaab Alam, one of the producers, told The News Mill.

The film will be available on MovieSaints.com for three days from July 31 to August 2 in the entire North America region.
