Four COVID-19 positive patients died in Assam in the morning on July 8, taking the overall death toll in the state to 20.

All were admitted at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati and succumbed to their critical infections between 2 am and 5 am, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on July 8.

“They all were on invasive ventilation, had severe pneumonia, urosepsis and septic shock,” he added.

Among the casualties, three were residents of Guwahati, while the fourth
hailed from Barpeta district.

The overall COVID-19 positive tally in the state has reached 13,336 with 814 new cases detected in the last 24 hours, out of which 588 were from Guwahati.

The number of recovered patients in the state stands at 8,329.
