Earlier, Assam Police CID was roped in to probe the alleged murder of the teacher whose body was recovered from a private school, nearly 1.5 km away from her residence at Kalaigaon in Udalguri on July 7.
The police said the deceased, identified as Nayantara Saharia, a resident of Kalaigaon College road, went missing on July 6.
The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) had demanded a judicial probe into the incident.
There have been allegations that her face was disfigured by the criminals by splashing some corrosive substance.
Udalguri police suspected that the deceased was possibly attacked with some chemicals like acid as the face of the lady was completely burnt. “We are waiting for the forensic report to confirm the acid attack and rape,” the police said.
On July 8, Assam Police Director General Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “As directed by the chief minister, Assam CID officials and forensic experts dispatched to assist the Udalguri Police. No stone will be left unturned to bring the culprits to book.”
