Manipur on July 16 reported detection of 64 fresh COVID-19 cases.

In the last 24 hours, 45 males and 19 females were tested positive for the virus, health department spokesperson Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said.

The official added that 48 of the confirmed cases were detected at VRDLs of RIMS and while 16 were reported from JNIMS.

The positive patients were from Churachandpur, Imphal West, Kakching, Kamjong, Tamenglong, Thoubal, Senapati and Ukhrul districts. They were shifted to COVID care facilities.

The official informed that among the fresh cases include a volunteer from ITI quarantine centre at Lilong in Thoubal. All others were returnees from other states, he added.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing were in place, Khoirom said.

In the past 24 hours, 49 persons were discharged from COVID Care Centres after they were found COVID-19 free on RT-PCR test.

With the detection of the fresh cases, the total number of detected cases in the state went up to 1764 with 635 of them active cases. As many as 1129 patients recovered from the disease in the state.
