In a first, a dedicated educational channel for Manipur called ‘Lairik TV’, was inaugurated by state education minister Thokchom Radheshyam on July 16.

The channel is now available on Jio TV.

Radheshyam expressed gratitude to Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited for the support to the department and the state which will benefit both the teachers and students.

The minister said that Jio TV is providing the platform free-of-cost to the state government for running the channel as well as for the subscribers across the country. Appreciating the teachers, officers and firms involved in the preparation of the e-content, Radheshyam added that without the dedication and contributions made by them the channel would not have been launched.

Radheshyam stressed that efforts are on from the department to ensure that the learning-teaching process takes place in the state in one way or the other during these uncertain times of pandemic. For this, the e-content based website was launched, e-textbooks and other study materials and notes prepared by teachers have been uploaded and print out copies for the same are distributed.

Radio classes are also being carried out through All India Radio, Imphal. Radheshyam said that the education department is for the people especially for the young minds and sought opinion and constructive suggestions.

Highlighting the benefits of hosting the channel on Jio TV, he stated that the channel schedule is managed by the Department of Education, Manipur.

Live programs (classrooms) can be integrated within the same channel. The same channel can host programs in local languages as well besides English.

Jio TV is offering for additional channels to launch class-wise contents. Through the channel, students can watch the contents easily on a mobile phone instead of depending on a TV unit.

During the launch of the ‘Lairik TV’, the minister informed that Higher Secondary Examination, 2020 will be announced on July 17 and wished students for success.

On a query about the admission in the 11th standard in the government higher secondary schools, he said that 15% of the seats have been reserved for the students passing out their high school leaving examination from other boards including CBSE.
